The Joint Plant Committee (JPC) under the aegis of the Ministry of Steel has metamorphosed into a broad-based non-partisan data bank on the steel sector. It is the only institution in the country, officially empowered to collect, collate and analyse data of the steel sector. It is the authenticity, profundity and timeliness of JPC’s data and information that give technocrats, analysts or economists an added confidence to refer to this storehouse of knowledge while studying the steel sector.
JPC’s data on iron and steel is used in policymaking, IIP, WPI, index for eight core industries, ministry of steel, ministry of commerce and other ministries, Railways, various government bodies and in preparing myriad studies in this area.
